Objective:
Guide to setting up 2FA/MFA for your Microsoft 365 account.


Steps:

  1. On your computer, sign into your account via the web using this link: https://aka.ms/mfasetup

  2. You should be prompted for more information. Click Next.

  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app from your phone’s app store. Please ensure that you download the official Microsoft app—there are others that will charge you a subscription. Note that the Microsoft Authenticator app is free. Once you’ve installed the app on your phone, click Next.



  4. On your phone, load the Authenticator App and choose the option to add an account, please select the “Work or School” option.


    When you select “Work or School” on the App, you’ll be given some options, choose “Scan QR Code”.


  5. Using the Authenticator app on your phone, point it at the QR code that should now be on your computer’s screen. Once scanned, click Next.
  6. You should now be sent an alert on your Authenticator App (on your phone) asking for a number. Type this number, which should be shown on your computer’s screen.


  7. Once approved, click the Next button.

  8. Click Done.
